Dive Centres

It must be difficult to choose between approximately 60 dive centres and their different use of training systems. Not to mention all offers made by freelancers, pretending to be owners of dive centres. However, an official Koh Tao dive centres is easily identified. Search on their website or Facebook page for:

  • Tourist Authorization Thailand (TAT) registration number
    • This must be found at the bottom of their page (TAT 34/01190)
  • Fixed telephone line for Koh Tao. which starts with “077 … …”

Otherwise you are dealing with long-term tourists / freelance diving instructors. Acting as booking agents for commissions, despite not in possession of a booking agent license for Thailand or even in their own country. Realise you won’t benift any insurance coverage when dealing with.

At Impian Divers we do everything within our power to steer away from this illegal way of attracting customers and we refuse to working with freelance staff. This guarantees a higher quality and thus safety during all dive activities.

Course orientations and risk conditions are always clearly explained by one of our dive staff.

In addition, courses will be adapted to individual needs, as sometimes more time is needed to make you feel more comfortable. An extra afternoon session in shallow water can be scheduled to give you more confidence and therefore more enjoyment of the course. We have plenty of time, and won’t rush to get you through a course quickly. However, give us some time, and do not plan your Koh Tao visit too tightly.

Legal Aspects

A dive center without its own boat, captain, tanks & compressor and permanent dive staff is like a restaurant without its own kitchen, tables and a cook on call-off.

According to TAT Thailand, a dive centre must own its own boat, or rent a boat for at least 6 months. Furthermore, that rental boat cannot be shared to more than 2 dive centres at the same time.

Education Systems

There are many training agencies, all offering a wide range of the same recreational & professional diving courses. However, a educational system does not own dive centres or resorts nor are they responsible for the related dive staff. Dive centres are private companies, who select a specific educational system which suits them best.

A local pub serving Guiness does not imply that the pub is owned by Guiness, correct?

Any training system, which is recognized by NEN & ISO standards, is valid worldwide.
Contrary to what some local dive shop managers still dare to claim: but all NEN & ISO educational training systems are internationally recognized, just like a driving license.

Dive Insurance

Only a few training systems such as IDD / IADS offer inclusive worldwide diving insurance during and after training.

The quality of the diving courses, which are associated with the growing name of I.D.D & I.A.D.S Netherlands, is one of the reasons why we started working with them in 2015.

I.D.D & I.A.D.S is the Dutch equivalent of the British BSAC, Idea Italy, and many countries using the of the CMAS system.

The standards & procedures of I.D.D & I.A.D.S are the same worldwide.

This in contrast to for example PADI, who works with regional franchisers (Australia/US/Europe) and local based ‘representatives’, who regularly apply at random different standards, simply for meeting their targets.

Insurance

As long as you follow all guidelines & procedures during a diving training, any student is insured up to 50,000 Euro for diving-related accidents, such as decompression illness while attending an I.D.D & I.A.D.S training course.

Once course completed, a 1 calendar year free membership is included, offering a worldwide scuba related diving- and liability insurance.

No other Koh Tao diving organization offers this and as a student divers you will be insured through a Thai insurance policy, which covers up to 200,000 Thai baht (<5,000 Euro) expense allowances instead.

Our Dive Staff

Every Impian Divers staff member is an active I.D.D & I.A.D.S executive, and therefore professionally insured for liability through I.D.D & I.A.D.S Netherlands.

Again, caution is advised, as diving instructors from other training systems do not always need to have diving insurance to be able to teach diving in Southeast Asia.

Quality Control

The I.D.D & I.A.D.S Netherlands quality department ensure, among other things, that all I.D.D executives (dive masters and instructors) are trained and remain within the I.D.D & I.A.D.S Netherlands standards and procedures. This will create a guarantee for the courses worldwide.

On the I.D.D & I.A.D.S Netherlands websites you can find which instructors and dive centres comply with their standards and who have an active status, necessary in order to be able to issuing official diving certificates.
